The venerable National Geographic Society wanted a native app to collect its myriad sources of daily content and expose them in a beautiful, interactive way. I was the engineer on a team that collaborated closely with editors at NatGeo to design and implement this award-winning app. The content was later rolled into Apple News, but many of the ideas and user experience flourishes that originated in View are now ubiquitous.

Winner of the 2016 People’s Voice Webby for Best Visual Design – Function

View was designed as a photos-first app. Wherever possible, the user interacts directly with the magazine’s impeccable imagery.

Innovative, truly native rendering allowed for fluid interactions like the scaling effect on article header images. Movement between articles was likewise smooth, owing to the performant nature of Apple’s TextKit framework.

Seven days of back-issues were available, with seamless offline caching.
